Dermal Needling (Microneedling and Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT))

"Dermal needling is the only rejuvination treatment that maximises penetration of essential cell nutrients, and maximises release of growth factors associated with the positive aspects of wound healing simultaneously"  Dr.Lance Setterfield, MD

Microneedling (or CIT) is a safe and effective method for all skin types to improve fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, alopecia, skin tightening, as well as a variety of other skin ailments.

To better understand how microneedling works, let’s first take a closer look into the arena in which it performs. The skin is the body’s largest and most essential organ; it is in a constant state of fluctuation. Dead cells of the outer layers are continuously shed and replaced by inner cells that move up toward the surface.

Skin is composed of two primary layers: the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the outermost protective layer; it is meant to protect the body from outside elements and to act as a water-resistant barrier that prevents essential nutrients from leaving the body. The dermis—commonly known as the “true skin”—is the most important layer since it is home to the essential functioning components of the skin. This layer is made up of fibroblasts, which are primarily responsible for producing collagen and elastin.

Microneedling (or CIT) is a safe and effective method for all skin types to improve fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, alopecia, skin tightening, as well as a variety of other skin ailments.

Collagen makes up 70% of the dermis and it plays a vital role in the cohesion, elasticity and regeneration of skin. At the average age of 35, almost half of the collagen that we were born with is lost. As a result, degenerative skin changes can become visible. As the skin ages, it begins to lose its firmness and elasticity, but it can be rejuvenated.

During the process of microneedling, small micro-channels are created in the skin to activate the body's natural healing response. While vertical needle insertion and a fast perforation process renders less discomfort (in contrast to other collagen-synthesizing therapies), there is enough stimulation for the ‘injured’ skin to shift into “regeneration mode.”

During the regeneration cycle, the body intensifies the release of growth factors within the deeper layers of the skin. As a result, collagen and elastin production is accelerated to heal the wound, which builds new layers of healthy skin cells. The micro-channels that are created offer optimal opportunities for better absorption of therapeutic serums.

Dermapen 3™ uses multiple needles to vertically pierce the skin with patent-pending AOVN™ (Automatic Oscillating Vertical Needling) technology. When moved across the skin, the Dermapen 3™ creates millions of fine channels in the skin. The channels can carry up to 80% more topical nutrients, allowing for treatment delivery deep into the skin. It also simulates trauma, which the body responds to by launching a natural healing process.Advanced skin needling promotes results similar to fractional laser treatments, but without the side effects and downtime. Practitioners have also observed it to be more effective than most microdermabrasion treatments and chemical peels.Unlike traditional skin needling rollers, Dermapen 3™ causes less trauma and causes minimal epidermal (skin) damage, therefore reducing pain and discomfort, and making it a safer, more effective treatment. Dermapen 3’s disposable single-use cartridges eliminate risk of cross-contamination, while the adjustable depths allow for a treatment tailored to your individual needs. Dermapen 3™ is so advanced, that it is even suitable and safe to use in delicate and hard to reach areas such as around the eyes and lips and on the nose. Your clinician will assess your skin and treatment area to recommend a treatment plan suitable for you.

BioSurface™  Peel is a powerful skin resurfacing system from the skin health experts at Dermalogica and The International Dermal Institute. It helps reduce breakouts, pigmentation and signs of premature aging to reveal smoother, brighter and softer skin.

Why do i need it?

Chemical peels are one of the most popular professional skin care services today because they can improve the quality, texture and tone of the skin. But they can also produce severe side effects such as inflammation, discoloration and scarring for up to several months. With BioSurface Peel, you can get the same powerful results without the associated risks or downtime. In fact, your skin will look and feel healthier than ever!

What can i expect?

Most clients experience noticeable results within three treatments, from fewer wrinkles and fine lines to smoother texture and reduced breakouts. Results will vary depending on your skin condition and how frequently you receive BioSurface Peel treatments.

BioSurface Peel is designed to work with the skin’s chemistry, not against it. When performed by a certified skin care professional, it safely removes dull outer layers of skin and helps the skin underneath regenerate for better health and radiance.

dramatic skin smoothing. no downtime.

How often do I need BioSurface Peel treatment to maintain results?

Your skin care professional will prescribe a series of three to six treatments depending on your ski

concern and skin condition. Multiple series may performed to achieve the desired results.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for BioSurface Peel treatments?

Once your skin care professional determines yo are a candidate for BioSurface Peel treatments, or she may prescribe a Dermalogica product pre treatment regimen specific to your skin condition As a general rule of thumb, it is good practice to discontinue the use of prescribed exfoliants (suc

Retin-A and Renova) at least 48 hours prior to, a during, BioSurface Peel treatments.

I used to take Isotretinoin (also known as Accutane). Can I receive BioSurface Peel treatments?

Yes, but only if you’ve been off Isotretinoin for m than 6 months.

I’m pregnant. Can I receive a BioSurface Pee treatment?

No. Your skin may be too sensitive for the highly acidic nature of BioSurface Peel.

While many clients seek out overly aggressive peels in the hopes they will reduce the signs of

premature aging, the side effects of these treatments, most notably inflammation, actually age the

skin

more by damaging the delicate skin structure at the layers associated with cell birth. BioSurface

Peel is especially designed to deliver all the benefits of a chemical peel without the scarring and

downtime.

Microneedling is one of the hottest topics in skin care today—and for a good reason. It’s a clinically proven treatment that, when executed correctly, produces collagen and elastin in aging skin. This is known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), a process in which microneedles puncture the skin to stimulate and manipulate the body’s natural healing properties. This technology is a revolutionary improvement to traditional collagen-synthesizing therapies like dermabrasion, chemical peeling or laser resurfacing. Although these invasive therapies may offer results that are similar to microneedling, they are more likely to be accompanied with major downtime and a risk of serious complications.
